There are hundreds of places to eat in Edinburgh. Here are just a few of the favourites from the IMGS2022 team. We strongly recommend booking in advance – Edinburgh is busy at this time of year.  

Old Town Edinburgh (within 10 min walks of the conference venue) 

The Outsider – Bistro, great views of castle £££  

Vittoria on the Bridge – Edinburgh Italian chain – pizza, pasta etc  ££ 

Divino Enoteca – also part of the Vittoria group – slightly more upmarket Italian food £££  

Blonde Restaurant – modern Scottish and European restaurant – an old favourite ££

Greyfriars Bobby’s Bar – decent pub food – ££ –    

Saboteur – tasty Vietnamese – ££ 

Ting Thai Caravan Teviot Place – great Thai food – ££ –  

Mother India’s Café – a firm favourite amongst the Geographers @ Edinburgh – tapas style Indian food, good for larger group and sharing smaller plates – ££  

The Holyrood 9A – good pub food, known for their burgers – ££ –  

David Bann Restaurant – vegetarian restaurant – ££ –  

St James Centre – this is a shopping centre with a number of very good dining options (avoiding the chains!) and great views over the city from Bonny & Wild –  One particularly good option here Ka Pao (Asian fusion) ££

The Original Mosque Kitchen at the back of the Edinburgh Central Mosque offers low cost and tasty range of Indian food. Seating is outside (covered) £ Access from W Nicholson St  

Red Box Noodle Bar – tasty noodles in a box – £ –  

Kalpna – Indian vegetarian and vegan – ££ –  

Maki and Ramen – several locations around town. Really great Ramen and Sushi ££  

El Cartel – super yummy homemade tacos, 1 restaurant near Uni and one in New Town ££  

Civernos Pizza Slice – A few different locations in town. One near the Uni £  

Ondine – wonderful seafood restaurant just off the Royal Mile £££  

New Town Edinburgh (approx. 20 mins walks). The New Town (a late 18th and early 19th century development) is another area of the city with a wide range of eating options.

Cafe Marlayne – French – ££ –  

Fishers In The City – great seafood – £££ –  

Bar Soba – south east Asian food –  

L’escargot Bleu – excellent French bistro – £££ –  

Café St Honore – another great option for French food – £££ –

Chaophraya – Thai food (and great view of city!) – ££ – 

Social Bite – Vegan & vegetarian friendly and ethical – £ – 

Harmonium – Vegan – ££ –  

Noto – Independent, sharing plate style restaurant. Wonderful. £££  

Aizle – Focussed on in season, fresh food £££  

Other areas in Edinburgh  

Leith Walk (20-25 mins) is the main thoroughfare joining the city to the port area of Leith. There are a number of good options  

La Casa – Spanish food and tapas – ££ –  

Valvona & Crolla is a longstanding Edinburgh institution with fabulous Italian Deli with a restaurant at the back  

The Black Fox – Craft beer, cool cocktails and lovely pub food – ££- 

Stockbridge (30 mins walk) – the far end of the New Town and well worth a visit. A walk along the Water of Leith is a great way to round of a meal in Stockbridge.  

Stockbridge High St has a number of very good restaurants including  

The Scran and Scallie – £££ –  

Nok’s Kitchen on Stockbridge – Thai – ££ –  

The Shore (45-50 mins walk or bus/taxi) is the old port area of the city 

There are a number of good restaurants along the waterfront and by the old docks.
